Former president of the World Association of Medical Editors. Editor of the New Zealand Journal of Medical Laboratory since 1994, Associate Editor of BMC Public Health, and Editorial Board Member of six international journals.
Has authored about 180 peer reviewed publications in international biomedical journals, including the British Medical Journal and the Lancet.
